Dear Friends

This letter was sent via email to those who have given us their email addresses.  This version is being sent by regular mail to others.   Please provide an email address so that we can quickly and efficiently update you on matters relating to the Nueces River in Zavala County.   My email address is klknight@att.net  Also, remember we have a website which is updated regularly at http://www.nuecesriver.org/

At this time, we are waiting on a formal decision from TPWD.  We have heard that one has been made, but have not yet seen it.  We anticipate that the TPWD will deny the LRAP.

So, the question becomes, "What next?"   I am told from those who have fought the battle for years that we should NOT expect this to go away.  I have heard and seen enough to believe them.  There are a few people who have led a valiant fight against similar and long fought battles.  But now, they welcome and need new and committed opponents.  We need to complete the process of organizing our group and join the fight NOW.  I am here to facilitate this process.

WAITING FOR DECISION ON LRAP FROM TPWD

March 4, 2008

THANK YOU to everyone for supporting the Friends of the Nueces River with phone calls and letters of opposition to TPWD on the Zavala County LRAP.   Now, we are waiting to see if the Texas Parks & Wildlife will deny the Zavala County LRAP.

In the meantime, we are turning our attention to the Zavala County Commissioner's Court.  We have been working with folks from the Nueces River Authority, Zavala County Taxpayer's Association, Stewards of the Nueces and the Texas Conservation Alliance.  All have a commen goal of protecting the Nueces River.

We want to obtain answers on when and where Zavala County plans to place trash recepticles at the eleven current public access points.  Further, we are seeking information on what Zavala County intends to do  to provide law enforcement at public river access points to protect citizens who use these areas for recreation and family gatherings.

The time has come to focus attention on the disgraceful conditions that are allowed if not encouraged along the Nueces River In Zavala County.
